Will that offer actually make you happy?

No doubt when a college coach says they'd like to extend a spot to you on their roster it is an awesome feeling.

But what brought you real joy?

Was it the process that led up to the offer or the offer itself?

An offer is only new once. A new car only has that new car smell once. A new relationship's honeymoon high school love romance only has that luster once. Reflect - really - on what actually was enjoyable about the college process?

The older I get the more the football gets fuzzier but the more clearly I start to recollect all the car rides, eating pizza on the road with my parents and having them there after each game win or loss. When you're young, all you think about is football. When you get older, all you remember are the times with your family.

Will an offer make you happy? Sure. But, not forever.

It wasn't the thing that made you happy, but the things you did to get the thing.
